KENT WILSON OF COUNSEL
On July 1, 2011, Kent Wilson and Wilson & Ryan became an Of Counsel Affiliate of Kanaris, Stubenvoll & Heiss. Prior to his affiliation with FK, Mr. Wilson was a partner with Peterson & Ross, a founding member of McCullough Campbell & Lane and co-founder of Wilson & Ryan, which he currently manages. For the past 37 years, Mr. Wilson has represented the London, Dublin, Continental European and Bermudian insurance markets, largely in respect of coverage, mass tort, and mega-claim litigation within the first and third party property fields following initial Lloyds broker training at Stewart Smith Ltd. in London.
Since 1974, Mr. Wilson’s practice has focused upon international insurance and litigation/arbitration/ADR issues with heavy concentration in the fields of products liability, petrochemical and pharmaceutical losses, construction failures, CGL, umbrella and reinsurance policy drafting, implementation and dispute resolution, and admiralty matters.
During the course of his career, Mr. Wilson has acted as lead and co- counsel variously for London, European and Bermudian insurers in connection with, inter alia : the Coordinated Asbestos Cases venued in California, the Unocal catacarb losses arbitrated in London, the DuPont benlate litigation litigated nationwide, the ITT LNG tank ship cryogenic pump failures arbitrated in Paris, the Koch Industries isobutene pipeline ruptures in Kaufman County, Texas, the Phillips Petroleum polyethylene plant explosion losses in Pasadena, Texas, the Enron natural gas pipeline explosion in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and a host of pharmaceutical product coverage matters including Johnson & Johnson’s Otho Evra and Propulsid , Wyeth’s Prempro, Bristol Myer’s Stadol, Purdue Pharma’s OxyContin, Hoffmann-LaRoche’s Accutanne and American Home Product’s Phenylpropanalomine, to name a few.
Ancillary to his representation of the insurance industry, Mr. Wilson has been a periodic lecturer for the Defense Research Institute and the London Court of International Arbitration and has lectured on dispute resolution mechanisms at the Freshfields L’Institute De Droit Des Affaires de L’Universite-Aix Marseille Annual Symposium. He has also been a contributor to the International Law Journal and the Redfern & Hunter treatise on International Commercial Arbitration.
